Fermilab selects approximately fifteen college students to participate in the
Summer Internships in Science and Technology (SIST) program each year to help us
develop a richer understanding of the fundamental properties of matter. This
internship program has been developed to familiarize select college students with
opportunities at the frontier of scientific research and to provide experiences
that support their choice of science as a career. Interns receive a salary
related to the class level that has been completed before coming to Fermilab. The
students we target are U.S. citizens and foreign nationals with majors and
interests in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and the
Computer Sciences.
Prof. James C. Davenport of Virginia State University (Petersburg, VA)
has been the coordinator of the summer program since its creation. Prof. Davenport
acts as the program advisor for all of the students during their tenure here at
Fermilab. He helps to settle conflicts and assists in the preparation of the
student's final report.
