SIST Program Details SALARY An intern in the SIST program receives a salary for the work done, based on a 40-hour workweek and the course hours that have completed by the summer of 2008. Course Hours Completed By Semester By Quarter Class Level Weekly Salary 10-29 15-44 Freshman $615 30-59 45-89 Sophomore $652 60-89 90-124 Junior $691 90+ 125+ Senior $725 Standard US taxes will be withheld from the pay, as is customary with all Fermilab employees. Summer interns receive no paid sick leave, no vacation, have no medical insurance and must take Memorial Day and July 4 as unpaid holidays. Any overtime or shift premium is arranged through the division where the intern is assigned. Interns will receive their first paycheck after about two weeks of work, so they must bring enough money to pay for their expenses during that period. BENEFITS Your housing costs are partially subsidized by the program--we pay a portion of your rent for the 4-bedroom apartment that you share with three other interns Your apartment is fully furnished, including: Furniture Linens Pots and pans, utensils, plates, cups, etc. Cable TV High-speed internet Local telephone service You also share a car, which the program pays for. You pay for the gas. The rental includes unlimited mileage (instate) and insurance. We pay for your airfare to and from Fermilab at the begining and end of the program EXPECTATIONS To adhere to the job duties and to observe the required time and attendance standards, as defined by your supervisor. To attend program activities, including the final presentations. To attend the weekly physics and engineering lecture series. To prepare and present oral and written reports at the end of the session. (The reports will be published on the web and distributed to the interns' home institutions.) To conduct yourself in a responsible and professional manner.
